Well-led
We assessed capable, compassionate and inclusive leaders, and freedom to speak up within this key question. Our rating for this key question remains good. The registered manager and nominated individual were involved with this assessment and were open and honest throughout. Staff felt improvements could be made around communication and being listened to. We raised these concerns with the nominated individual who took action to address this. Relatives told us “It’s a well led service.” Another relative told us, “Their communication is their strength, and the manager and staff are accessible.”

Capable, compassionate and inclusive leaders
The nominated individual was aware of the information of concern that led to this assessment. The management team told us what action they had taken and the services process and procedures in relation to this. They were aware of the risks in relation to staff turnover, culture, training, raising concerns and delivering evidence-based care and treatment. Records showed they used outcomes from audits and checks to support learning and improvement.
The management team demonstrated a strong understanding of what was required to run an effective service. They were proactive in making improvements when required to improve the safety and quality of the service. The management team knew people using the service well and were able to tell us about specific people’s needs, likes and dislikes.
Freedom to speak up
Staff felt they were able to raise concerns with the nominated individual. One staff member said, “(Nominated individual’s name) is brilliant.” For more information see Listening to and Involving People.
The registered manager was aware of their statutory responsibilities in relation to informing CQC. The provider had policies in place for staff to refer to, such as, raising concerns, freedom to speak up and whistleblowing. The management team used staff supervision meetings to discuss any concerns staff might have.
