Care plans were person centred and included information about people's preferences and wishes. People told us they were treated with kindness, respect and dignity. Staff knew people well, including people's communication style's, this empowered people to maintain their independence and make choices. We observed people were promoted to be as independent as possible.

Independence, choice and control

People were supported to have choice and control over their own care, staff empowered people to make decisions and maintain their independence. People received regular visitors, care records evidenced people had family input, such as trips out to pub and regular family days were held at the service. People had choice to attend the on-site hairdresser's if they wished to do so. An activities co Ordinator provided meaningful activities for people.

Care plans were person centred and included information about how staff promoted people's independence, such as encouraging people to feed and wash themselves, and make daily living choices. Communication care plans were in place and detailed how staff communicated with people and supported them to express their needs and wishes.

People were supported by staff who knew them well, including people’s health needs and personal preferences. Staff told us they gave people as much choice and control as possible. One staff member said “We ask people what they want to wear, do and eat. There's a cook, people get a choice and the food is nice. Visitors can come anytime they like, we have a lot of visitors.”

People were supported by kind and caring staff, who respected their privacy and dignity. We observed staff offering choices to people, such as where they would like to sit, what activities they would like to do and what they would like to eat and drink.
