Equity in experiences and outcomes

Score: 3

The practice understood the needs of its local population and had developed services in response to those needs. They were aware they had one area within their practice boundary with high deprivation and aimed to provide equity in services. The practice informed us there were no barriers to patients registering with them for care, this included patients of no fixed abode who were able to use the practice address for healthcare communications. The practice worked as part of a Primary Care Network (PCN). PCNs are groups of GP practices collaborating with community, mental health, social care, pharmacy, hospital, and voluntary services in their areas to provide local services.

The practice complied with the Accessible Information Standard. There was an appropriate Accessible Information Standard Policy in place to endeavour to meet the information and communication support needs of patients, service users, carers and parents with a disability, impairment or sensory loss. The practice website also had an accessibility statement which gave patients information on how accessible the website was and what to do if they could not access parts of the website. New patient registration forms were used to identify patients with a disability, impairment or sensory loss and if they had any communication needs. Translation services were available. We found the practice premises and equipment were safe for patients. Consultation and treatment rooms were available on the ground floor. Dedicated parking spaces and access enabled toilets were available for patients with a disability. There was level access and automatic doors at the entrance. Corridors and internal doors were wide enough for wheelchairs, mobility scooters, prams and pushchairs.

Patients were able to access the practice to book appointments, via an online platform or the telephone. Those patients unable to use the online platform were assisted by a patient support team adviser. We received positive feedback via the CQC Feedback on Care Forms from patients who had used the online platform.
