Freedom to speak up

Score: 3

Staff told us they had more confidence with freedom to speak up since two new managers have been in post. Staff told us they have raised concerns to the new management team. Staff told us, “the management has changed, we have raised a few concerns - staffing levels, concern about wellbeing for the staff not having adequate breaks or a break at all.” Another staff member told us, “I would like to think I would, deputy manager does want us to speak up and raise our concerns and work with us.” Staff were able to explain that if they did not feel listen too, they knew who to contact to raise their concerns. One staff member told us, “The management team told us they do want staff to speak up and they are aware that with previous management this had been difficult for staff because they did not feel listened too."

The provider had a whistleblowing policy to guide staff on how to whistleblow if they needed too. The deputy manager told us they were working on the culture in relation to staff not feeling they were being listen to by previous management.
