People received safe care which met their needs. Risks were communicated with staff who were consistent and knew people well, however risk assessments were not always clearly recorded in care plans.

Safeguarding

People told us they felt safe. One person said, “I feel absolutely safe with [staff]”, relatives told us, “100% safe! [Staff] talk to me all the time and keep me updated” and “My [relative] is safe with [staff]”.

Staff received safeguarding training and were aware of the signs of abuse. The registered manager was aware of their reporting responsibilities.

People were protected from the risk of harm and abuse. The provider had clear guidance in place for staff and was aware of their reporting responsibilities.

Involving people to manage risks

People were involved and supported to mitigate risks. One relative told us how the staff were very attentive in relation to their relatives skin and how they supported the person to reduce any potential injury.

People were supported by a regular and consistent staff team who knew them well. Staff were able to explain any risks and how these are mitigated. The registered manager also supported people directly with their care, this enable them to have a greater understanding of any risks posed to people, which they then communicated with staff, people and their relatives.

Where assessments had identified the need to produce a more detailed risk assessment, these were not always completed or clearly recorded.

Safe and effective staffing

People told us staff were usually on time and if they were running late would always call ahead to inform them. People were complimentary about staff. One person told us, “I have the same 2 staff all the time so I really know them well “. A relative said, “The staff are all really professional, I believe they know what they are doing.”

There were enough staff to meet people’s needs. Visiting information confirmed most visits were attended on time.

Staff were recruited safely. We reviewed 3 staff files. The provider had a robust recruitment process which included obtaining relevant references and ensuring people had the required criminal records checks in place. Staff received relevant training for their role.
