Our view of the service

Roxburgh House Care Home is a residential care home providing care for up to 38 older people. At our last inspection, this service was rated good. We initiated an assessment of the service on 22 February 2024. The assessment was prompted by a review of information we held about this service. Following this assessment, the service remains rated good. We found good practice in relation to risk management. Through our observations it was clear staff knew people well and took the necessary action to protect them from the risk of harm. Staff were caring and our observations found they had formed close bonds with the people living at the home. Staff ensured people's independence was promoted and choices respected. We identified some improvements were needed to the level of detail in people's care plans and staff training. The registered manager was responsive to our findings and outlined the action they would take to improve these areas. People's experience of this service

People described how they felt safe living at Roxburgh House Care Home. A person told us, "Staff make me feel safe." People were aware of their individual risks and felt the staff supported them safely to manage these risks. People told us there were enough staff and they received support when they needed it. A person said, “They are always here if I need to speak to someone.” People told us staff treated them well and had the skills and knowledge to effectively support them. People felt the home was maintained to a safe standard and spoke positively about the overall cleanliness and homeliness of the environment. People told us they felt listened to. They told us staff were kind and respected their wishes and promoted their independence. They confirmed they were in full control of all decisions relating to their care. A person told us, "The staff always ask what I would like for breakfast. I am never rushed to do anything.” People's relatives felt their loved ones had achieved good outcomes as a result of the care and treatment they received at Roxburgh House Care Home.
