The key question of caring was rated good at our last inspection, however, at this assessment we identified a breach of the legal regulations. People were not being treated with dignity and compassion. Staff did not maintain people’s dignity when supporting them.

Kindness, compassion and dignity

During the assessment we observed staff not supporting people with kindness, dignity and compassion. One person to have wet clothes and sitting on a wet seat, it was noticed by inspectors when they stood up from their chair. This was pointed out to staff who supported them with personal care. Another person was supported by staff to use the toilet near the communal lounge, staff did not close to the toilet door whilst supporting the person in the toilet and we observed other staff members walking past the toilet, which they would be able to see in. This was not dignified for the person. During our onsite assessment, a person had a fall in the communal lounge, staff did not maintain their dignity. Whilst staff were supporting the person, another 2 people were sat in the lounge watching, no attempts were made to preserve the person's dignity.
