Caring
Patients told us staff were kind and caring. Staff were able to give examples of how they delivered person-centred care compassionately. We saw staff taking the time to speak to patients even when they were busy.
This service scored 75 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.
Kindness, compassion and dignity
People told us that staff were kind and caring. They told us that staff talked to them in an appropriate way and they felt safe on the ward. A patient told us after their behaviour was unacceptable towards another patient “I was not met with feeling judged but met with kindness, support and compassion”. However, a patient told us that staff had told them that “they should be in a care home” and they felt they annoy staff with the physical needs they have.
Staff told us examples of how they treated their patients with kindness and how they understood their needs. Multi-disciplinary staff spoke about a patient with complex behaviours with kindness and how they strived to make sure their quality of life was their priority. They spoke about how they took positive risks with this patient. They spoke about how they had worked with this patient to create a better space for them to be in and supported them to choose the colour and decoration of this area.
We observed staff speaking to patients with compassion and kindness. We saw staff even when busy taking the time to listen to patient needs.
