Caring
The overall rating for this key question is good. Within this key question we reviewed 1 quality statement independence, choice and control. People were supported to have visits from friends and family and activities were available for people should they wish to attend them. Staff promoted people’s independence choice and control and people’s wishes were respected.

Independence, choice and control
People were supported to have visits from family and friends and to attend activities should they wish to. We observed activities were offered to people although some people choose to spend time in their rooms. Not all people we spoke with wanted to attend activities.
The management confirmed people were being supported to have visits and activities were being provided by care staff whilst recruitment for an activities co-ordinator was being undertaken. Staff told us they gave people choices including what meals they would like and what they would like to wear.
We observed staff speaking to people in a polite and respectful manner. Staff asked people how they were. Staff were observed promoting people’s independence and where people needed more assistance, they did this respecting the person’s wishes.
People’s mealtime experiences were sought through provider visits. These reviewed how the dining area was presented and what was being offered on the menu to people.
