Independence, choice and control

People told us they had choice and control about when and how they preferred to receive care and support from staff. They said they were able to choose the times of their care visits, in line with their support needs and were able to choose their preferred gender of staff to support them. People told us they were supported to make informed choices, which staff respected. For example, their choice of meals and how they wanted their personal care to be delivered.

Staff spoke about people with kindness and compassion. They knew people well as individuals and understood they should be supported to have choice and control and make decisions about how their care was provided. They made sure people could be as independent as possible and respected this right.

People’s care plans included details of their support needs and included details about any preferences such as likes and dislikes, how they liked their personal care to be delivered and their needs to be met. Care plans also set out clearly people’s level of independence and what they were willing and could do for themselves.
