Our view of the service

The assessment of Cliftonville Care Home involved both an on-site and off-site review. The on-site assessment took place on 27 March, 2 and 3 April 2024 and the off-site assessment took place between 27 March and 24 April 2024. The inspection team consisted of an assessor, two inspectors, a pharmacist specialist and an Expert By Experience. An Expert by Experience is a person who has personal experience of using or caring for someone who uses this type of care service. We looked at six quality statements as part of this assessment, Safeguarding, Involving people to manage risk, Infection prevention and control, Medicines Optimisation, Supporting people to live healthier lives, and Governance, management and sustainability. We spoke with people who used the service, relatives and staff. This included the manager and regional manager. Cliftonville Care Home provides Accommodation for persons who require nursing or personal care and Treatment of disease, disorder or injury up to 106 people. There were 70 people living at the service at the time of our assessment. There were systems in place to ensure safeguarding concerns were investigated and reported as appropriate. Staff knew how to raise concerns if there were incidents and accidents. When these occurred, appropriate action was taken. Incidents and accidents were reviewed by the manager and provider to reduce risk. There were enough staff to support people. Staff were recruited safely and had the training they needed. Staff were happy in their roles and this led to a positive atmosphere. The service did not have a registered manager at the time of our visit but the manager in place was making their registered managers application to the Care Quality Commission. At our last inspection the service was rated requires improvement. At this assessment the service has been rated good overall.
