Care planning and reviews were planned in a way which met individual needs. People and their relatives were involved in care planning. Feedback from relatives was very positive about the staff and agency. Staff were knowledgeable about people’s needs. Staff spoke about people in a caring and kind way. People were encouraged to be as independent as possible.

Independence, choice and control

People’s care and support needs were assessed by the provider before they started providing care and support. Care plans outlined these needs and how people wanted to be supported. People’s choices, likes and preferences were recorded. Staff knew people well and what they wanted to achieve. People’s choices were respected by staff and leaders. The care planning and review process promoted independence and choice.

The registered manager shared some examples of what people wanted to achieve and how these would be progressed. Staff explained how important it was for people to maintain their independence and have choices. Staff gave some examples of how they promoted people independence and supported them to make choices in their every day lives. Where people lacked the capacity to make decisions, staff followed the principles of the Mental Capacity Act. Families in cases where people could not make decisions about their care, supported decision making.

People were able to make choices about their care and support. People and relatives were involved in care planning and reviews. Staff encouraged people to do things for themselves and promoted their independence.
