During an assessment under our new approach

We carried out this announced, on-site assessment on 3 December 2024. There was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement. Patients were treated with dignity and respect and at the time of our assessment, could access care, support and treatment when required. Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance and infection control procedures were in place. The practice had systems to manage risks. Our assessment highlighted some additional minor areas of risk. The provider was open to our feedback and took immediate action in response to these. Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation. However, these were not consistently adhered to. The practice is in Ditton, Widnes and provides private dental care and treatment for adults and children. There was portable ramp access to the practice and car parking spaces were available near the practice. The practice had 3 treatment rooms. At the time of assessment there were 11 members of staff. During the assessment we spoke with 3 dentists (1 of which was also the practice manager), 1 dental therapist, and 2 dental nurses.

During a routine inspection

We spoke to a sample of three patients who were visiting the service during our inspection. They made various positive comments such as: 'Staff are very friendly'; 'I would always talk to the girls as they are really nice' and 'Staff are lovely, nothings too much trouble and they have always helped out in an emergency.'

Patients told us they were given various information about their treatment and understood the care and treatment choices available to them. Some of the patients we spoke to had been at the practice for many years. Everyone stated they were always consulted and they gave full consent about their treatment and check ups. They were all positive about their experiences about the service.

Long standing members of staff showed great stability in the staff team offering good continuity to patients.

The service had carried out a recent patient survey in October 2012. Overall positive comments had been made including 'Happy, friendly, always polite and helpful with care and attention.' The service provided ways for patients to express their views and comments and this helped to inform the provider to review the practice facilities.
