During an assessment under our new approach

We carried out this on-site, announced assessment on 18 July 2024. We found the practice had met regulations. The practice had systems to manage risks. Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation. Infection control procedures followed published guidance. Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance. Patients were treated with dignity and respect. At the time of our assessment, patients could access care, support and treatment when required. There was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement. Clapham South Dental is part of Inspire Dental a dental group provider. The practice is in the London Borough of Wandsworth and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children. At the time of our assessment, the dental team included 13 dentists (including 1 implantologist and 1 endodontist), 5 dental nurses, 9 trainee dental nurses (4 of whom cover reception duties), 5 dental hygienists, an assistant manager, a deputy manager and a practice manager. The practice had 6 treatment rooms. During the assessment we spoke with 3 dentists, 4 trainee dental nurse, and the practice manager. We also spoke with the organisations group manager.

During a routine inspection

During our visit we spoke to people using the service and looked at questionnaires returned to the practice. They told us "I felt no pain and was kept well informed", "Fantastic, a very personal service", "Professional and polite and the result was excellent" and "Really friendly service and no long wait".

People told us and we saw that staff treated them with dignity and respect.

They were given the information and time they needed to decide if this was the treatment they wanted and the practice they wished to provide it.

The procedure for consultation and treatment was fully explained including the fees charged.

People were told about any risks that might arise from the treatment chosen and had received consultations and treatment in a way that maintained their privacy.

They did not comment on the practice infection control system, complaints procedure or number of staff available to meet their treatment needs.

They did tell us they thought the practice was kept clean, tidy and felt safe using the service.

We found that the practice gave suitable information so that people could make an informed decision if they wished to proceed with the treatment recommended.

Records were kept up to date and a robust complaints procedure was followed.

There were adequate numbers of suitably qualified staff to meet people's needs.
