During an assessment under our new approach

This assessment took place between 2 Oct and 16 Oct 2024. Chestnut Gardens Care Home is a care home providing personal and nursing care to up to 72 people. At the time of our inspection there were 30 people using the service. People were protected from the risk of abuse or harm. Staff understood how to safeguard people and took action to do so when needed. Risks to people were assessed and managed well. Learning from events and incidents was used to improve the safety of the service for people. Health and safety checks were carried out of the premises and equipment to make sure they were safe. Infection risks were managed well and staff followed current practice. There were enough staff to support people. Staff were trained to meet people’s individual needs. Recruitment practice was safe and suitable staff were employed at the service. People received care focussed on them and their individual needs including those related to their protected equality characteristics. People were provided with information which met their individual communication needs. People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives. Staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests. People were supported to stay healthy and well and received their medicines when needed. People’s care was regularly reviewed to ensure this remained effective. People were treated equally, fairly, and supported to access care and support that met their needs. Staff understood people’s rights and how these should be met. The service was managed well by a skilled and experienced manager. Staff were valued and supported with their learning, development and wellbeing. Staff were encouraged to be open and raise concerns and these were listened to. There was a culture of improvement and inclusivity at the service. Staff worked with partners to help people achieve positive outcomes.
