Well-led
The provider did not always take robust action in relation to shortfalls they identified in their audits. Improvements were needed around the allocation of roles on one of the floors. Staff however said they felt supported and valued in their role. The leadership team were also on hand to support staff.

Capable, compassionate and inclusive leaders
Staff were congratulated by the management team and the provider for things that they had achieved in the service. There was an open-door policy and staff were encouraged to approach the management team when needed.
Staff told us they felt supported and listened to. Comments included, “I feel supported at the moment. [Senior management] are hands on”, “[Management] are very present in the home and always available for a chat and they seem to know everyone in depth and very well” and “The management team as a whole are great. They will always respond to any questions, and they are very professional, but you can tell they care at the same time.” The manager had just joined the service and told us, “My focus will be to speak to staff……we do employee of the month and pizza day which is all very nice but also for me its praising them when they are doing a good job.”

Governance, management and sustainability
Whilst staff felt supported and valued, they fed back that communication between staff whilst on shift needed to improve. One member of staff told us, “I think sometimes we should communicate more. We should talk more about the allocation of roles.” Another told us, “Communication [on the floor] is not always good.” The manager told us they were looking at ways of improving this and said, “I have told them [staff] I want a person for each department to manage their own department and they have agreed to that.”
Whilst regular audits were being undertaken by the provider there was not always sufficient action to address the shortfalls. For example, on the provider audit dated December 2023, it was identified that risk assessments were not always up to date or accurate, particularly around falls. We identified this concern remained unaddressed. The manager told us health and safety was an area they would be focusing on. In other areas the audits that were undertaken were effective in addressing shortfalls. These included audits of people’s skin integrity, infection control, mealtime experience and medicine audits. Actions plans were recorded and followed up on. Services that provide health and social care to people are required to inform the Care Quality Commission (CQC) of important events that happen in the service. The registered manager had informed the CQC of significant events including significant incidents and safeguarding concerns.
