Our view of the service

Oldbury Grange Nursing Home is a care home providing personal and nursing care to up to 69 people. At the time of the inspection 57 people were using the service. The service provides support to people over 65 and younger adults including those with physical disabilities and people living with dementia. Our assessment of the service started on 4 June 2024 and ended on 17 June 2024. Two inspectors carried out an unannounced visit to the home on 4 June 2024 and one inspector visited the home on 5 June 2024. During our assessment of the service we looked at all of the quality statements relating to all of the key questions. This was the first assessment of the service since a change in the provider in January 2023. The home was well-led by a manager who was in the process of registering with us. There were effective systems in place to monitor and improve the quality and safety of the service provided. Staff had the training and skills to carry out their role effectively. Systems were in place to ensure people received care and support in accordance with their needs and preferences. People’s views were valued and responded to and any learning from incidents or complaints were shared with staff and used to drive improvements.

People's experience of this service

People felt safe living at the home and with the staff who supported them. Staff had been trained how to protect people from the risk of harm or abuse. There were enough suitably trained and competent staff to meet people’s needs. People told us staff treated them with kindness and respect. People were involved in planning and reviewing the care they received and staff worked closely with health and social care professionals to ensure good outcomes for people. People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests; the policies and systems in the service supported this practice. People were supported to pursue hobbies of interest to them and maintain relationships with their friends and relatives. People benefitted from a manager who promoted a positive and open culture and a staff team who shared the provider’s visions and values.
