Care was person-centred and promoted people’s dignity, privacy and human rights. Care was focused on supporting people to remain independent. Staff supported people to engage in their local community and maintain relationships with friends and family. Where people required specialist equipment staff made referrals to the appropriate healthcare professionals to have these needs met.

Staff knew people well and how they preferred to be supported. Staff encouraged people to live full and active lives to promote positive outcomes for them. Staff told us they enjoyed working with people and that people were supported with a range of activities. Staff understood people’s rights and the registered manager told us they worked with individuals to support their safety when entering into relationships and supported their understanding on consent.

Care was planned in a person-centred way with the involvement of people, families and advocates when appropriate. Feedback was obtained from people during meetings with staff and support needs were regularly reviewed.

People had privacy in their own individually decorated and personalized rooms. One person said, “I have my own key to my room. I had a new bed last year and I had a new chair. I have everything I need.” People told us they enjoyed going out and taking part in activities or visiting family and friends. One person said, “On Sunday I went out to get my newspaper and went shopping. I enjoy doing puzzles or watching rugby on the television. We do yoga and have a man who comes in to do fitness.” Another person said, “I wake up when I want to, sometimes I go out or we do art and crafts. The staff are nice, there is always something to do and I visit my sister.”
