Our view of the service

Manor Court Care Home is a nursing home for up to 111 adults. The service provides personal care and nursing to older adults and younger adults with physical disabilities. There are 4 self-contained units. Only 3 units were occupied at the time of our assessment and 74 people were living at the service. The assessment started on 15 June 2024 and ended on the 25 June 2024. We visited the service on 18 and 19 June 2024. The visit was conducted to follow up concerns identified at the last inspection. The last rating for this service was requires improvement (published 15 November 2022). We identified breaches of Regulations in relation to safe care, person centred care, staffing and good governance. At this inspection, we found enough improvement and there were no breaches of Regulations.

People's experience of this service

The inspection visit was undertaken by 2 inspectors, a member of the CQC medicines team, a nurse specialist advisor, and an Expert by Experience. An Expert by Experience is a person who has personal experience of using or caring for someone who uses this type of care service. During our visit we spoke with 12 people who used the service and 3 relatives. We used communication tools to help gather feedback from 1 person who could not use words to communicate. We carried out observations of care and support. Our observations included the Short Observational Framework for Inspection (SOFI). SOFI is a way of observing care to help us understand the experience of people who could not talk with us. We spoke with staff on duty and looked at a range of records, the environment and how medicines were managed. We spoke with the registered manager. We also reviewed records the provider sent to us after the inspection visit. Following our site visit we spoke with a further 5 relatives of people using the service and 3 external professionals on the telephone. These phone calls were undertaken by an assessor and a regulatory coordinator. People using the service and their relatives were generally happy with the service. They felt people were safe and well supported by staff. Their healthcare needs were monitored and met. They were able to participate in a range of social activities and received personalised care and support. People felt the service was well managed and they were able to speak up if they had concerns.
