Our view of the service

We had previously undertaken a comprehensive inspection under our previous methodology of Mereside Dental Practice on 2 August 2023 under Section 60 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 as part of our regulatory functions. We found the registered provider was not providing safe or well led care and was in breach of regulations 12 and 17 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014. We undertook a follow up focused assessment on 29 May 2024. This assessment was carried out to review the actions taken by the registered provider to improve the quality of care and to confirm that the practice was now meeting legal requirements. We found the practice had met regulations. The practice had systems to manage risks. Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation. Infection control procedures followed published guidance. There was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement. Mereside Dental Practice is in Stoke and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children. At the time of our assessment, the dental team included 1 dentist and 1 dental nurse, who is also the receptionist. The practice had 2 treatment rooms. During the assessment we spoke with the dentist and the dental nurse.

People's experience of this service

On the day of inspection, we saw patient feedback from 2 patients. Their responses and additional patient feedback we reviewed provided a balanced view of the dental team and care provided by the practice. The practice shared patient feedback with the team. We were told this was reviewed and where suggestions had been made, appropriate action would be taken. Staff gathered feedback from patients, the public and external partners and demonstrated a commitment to acting on feedback.
