Independence, choice and control
People received the support they required to maintain their independence. One person told us, “I am used to being independent and the carers encourage this as much as possible.” Another person commented, “They help me to remain a bit independent. They encourage me to make decisions and choices.”
Staff understood person centred care and were able to explain how they ensured people were given choice and control in their lives and about how they received their care. One staff member said, “We follow people's care plans which states what they can and cannot do, but I would still ask if they wanted to do it themselves or if they wanted me to do it for them, giving them a choice.”
Care plans contained assessments to identify risks and keep people safe, for example, falls and environmental risk assessments were completed to reduce the risk of any falls. People's care plans had up-to-date information for staff guidance to promote their independence in areas such as mobility and managing medicines.
