All Inspections

14 December 2010 and 1 February 2011

During a routine inspection

There were 16 people using services when we carried out an unannounced visit to The Bungalow. People told us that they were very happy with their care. One person using the service said that 'staff tell you what is going to happen but you have an opportunity to discuss, you can make a private appointment with staff to talk whenever you feel like it'. They felt involved and able to make informed decisions about their care. Capacity assessments are regularly undertaken and people know what is happening or have appropriate representation in their best interests. Peoples' care and assessment was found to be reviewed regularly and delivered by skilled staff who work as a multidisciplinary team focussing on person centred care.

People said that in general they felt well looked after in a safe environment and that their privacy and dignity was respected by staff. One person's behaviour was having a negative impact for some other people on the unit. There privacy was affected which had increased their anxiety levels. The unit are doing what they can to resolve the situation but this is not always possible. Staff are aware of this issue and are trying to move it forward.

People felt that the ward was kept spotlessly clean with problems being addressed immediately. They felt that it was generally a calm and secure environment with some nice outside space and areas to move around in. People said that they felt that they could talk to staff at any time and also had access to a mobile phone to keep in contact with the 'outside'. 'The staff help me organise things and even help me do errands to town' was one comment.
