During a routine inspection

Patients at Withernsea Community Hospital had their care and health care needs well met because staff followed care plans and were aware of the changes in their conditions.

Patients were protected from the risk of abuse because staff had been trained in safeguarding adults' awareness and there were systems in place to report and record suspected incidents.

The premises at the hospital were safe and suitably maintained. There was sufficient private and communal space for staff to assure patients' privacy and dignity.

We found that staffing levels were appropriate on the ward and within the Neighbourhood Community Team as well as in the minor injuries unit. We found that at night there was a risk of staff and patient safety because of a reduction in personnel in the building, but The Trust's service manager had already begun to address this with the appropriate organisation, as the building was leased.

We found that staff had been appropriately trained in mandatory and other training courses and were supervised. There was effective governance of the hospital, which involved audits and surveys.
