Terms of this registration relating to carrying out this regulated activity
We have imposed the following for the regulated activities stated above:
Within 7 days the registered provider must devise a coordinated care approach across the entire maternity service by senior staff. This will include but is not limited to patients waiting at home, the birthing centre, post and antenatal wards and triage. A copy of this process is to be sent to the Care Quality Commission by 30 December 2024.
The registered provider at the Royal Derby Hospital must have an effective system which is in line with relevant national clinical guidelines, NICE guideline NG207 Inducing Labour and NICE Quality Standard QS22 Antenatal Care to identify, escalate and manage women and birthing people who require induction of labour. The registered provider must provide the Commission with a report setting out the steps it has taken to implement the system by 30 December 2024.
The registered provider at The Royal Derby Hospital must ensure that there is an effective system of visible leadership within the Maternity service by the obstetric medical team to ensure that decisions can be made and appropriate action taken promptly in response to issues arising.
i. The steps it has undertaken to implement that leadership system; and
ii. a copy of any audits or data analysis undertaken to monitor implementation of the system to increase members of the obstetric medical team physically attending and reviewing all inductions of labour, labours that are delayed and review any inpatient with clinical need as identified by any midwife by 30 December 2024.
The registered provider at the Royal Derby Hospital must ensure by 30 December 2024 that birthing centre has equipment in line with resuscitation council UK guidance for equipment used in home birth in all rooms and available advanced life support equipment must be easily accessible and within the birthing centre. The registered provider must provide the Commission with a report setting out the steps it has taken to implement this system by 30 December 2024.
The registered provider at the Royal Derby Hospital must ensure that there is an effective process for handovers of care by ensuring that the Situation, Background, Assessment and Recommendation (SBAR) tool is fully completed and entered onto each electronic patient record. The provider must provide the Commission with copy of the process and of their quality assurance system or audits following the implementation which have been reviewed and analysed within a reasonable period.
