During an inspection in response to concerns

We spoke with five people using the service. They told us they liked to help with cleaning and keeping the lounge tidy. One person said, "Everything is going fine, I am doing well". Another person said they liked helping staff to do the shopping.

People told us staff were ok. We observed staff supporting people sensitively, professionally and calmly. Staff were knowledgeable about people's needs. They were observed interacting with people in a respectful manner that showed that they understood each person's needs.

At this visit we also checked compliance with outstanding improvement actions for Outcome 4 and Outcome 10.

During a themed inspection looking at Learning Disability Services

We spent time observing the care being provided to all four patients throughout the two day visit. Due to their limited verbal communication skills and their mental wellbeing patients did not give us any verbal feedback about their experiences of the service.

Visitors to the service told us, 'the staff are fine, I have no problems with them' and that a therapeutic service was being provided. One visitor said they should be listened to and kept informed.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with two people that were staying at Postern House who described the positive way they were treated by staff and the respect they were shown. One person told us about behaviour strategies that they agreed to and also their consent to control of tobacco products. People were pleased that they had gained the trust of the staff to be able to go out alone and appreciated the way their visitors were welcomed into the unit.
