Meadow View Care Home is a residential care home providing personal and nursing care for up to 53 people. The service provides support to younger and older adults and people living with dementia, or a physical disability. At the time of our inspection there were 31 people living at the home. We carried out 2 onsite inspection visits on 11 and 15 July 2024. We found the provider had made improvements since the last inspection. We assessed a total of 21 quality statements from the safe, effective and well led key questions and found good practice. The scores for these areas have been combined with scores based on the key question ratings from the last inspection. The service had made improvements and was no longer in breach of regulations. There was a calm atmosphere at the home. Staff spoke positively about their work and the people they supported. People were supported by staff who understood their care and support needs. Medicines were managed safely. We observed there were sufficient staff deployed at the time of our assessment to meet people’s needs. Risks were assessed, monitored and managed. The home was clean and well maintained. The new manager understood legislation and regulation. Managers demonstrated their awareness of the importance of promoting people’s rights and independence. Staff had been recruited safely. Staff and leaders demonstrated a positive, compassionate, listening culture which promoted trust and understanding between them and people using the service. There was a focus on learning and improvement. Governance measures were effective in identifying service shortfalls and assessed, monitored and mitigated risks relating to people’s health, safety and welfare.

People's experience of the service

People and the person’s representative we spoke with were positive about the support people received from the staff team. Relatives told us their loved ones were safe living at Meadow View Care Home. One relative said,” The care my [relative] gets is exemplary. All the staff know [them], from the cleaners to the kitchen staff. Everybody’s so helpful. It’s an amazing care home.” People spoke positively about both staff and management. Comments included, “The new manager certainly seems to be tackling issues which were neglected before. They have taken relatives views into account. They are responsive to comments made and it’s reassuring to know.” And “All the staff, including receptionist and manager, are patient and caring.” Observations of interactions between people who could not provide verbal feedback and staff showed people were happy and relaxed in the company of staff. People could choose where to eat their meals, either in the dining room, lounge or their bedrooms. Feedback on the food and drinks was positive. People were supported by sufficient numbers of trained staff who were recruited safely to meet their needs. People were protected from the risk of abuse and told us they felt the safe at the service. Risks to people had been assessed and reviewed on a regular basis. People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests; the policies and systems in the service supported this practice. People were supported to pursue hobbies of interest to them and maintain relationships with people who were important to them. Care plans provided information about people's choices and preferences. Staff received relevant training, and this was updated as required. Staff worked with external professionals to ensure people’s holistic needs were met. The management team ensured that the views of people using the service and their loved ones were sought.
