Our view of the service
Combe House is a care home providing accommodation and personal care for up to seven people with learning disabilities. There were seven people living at the service at the time of our assessment. The assessment commenced on 31 January and was completed 5 February. As part of our learning disability and autistic people assessment methodology, we assess if services are meeting the Right Support, Right Care, Right Culture (RSRCRC) statutory guidance. This includes: Right support: Model of care and setting maximises people's choice, control and independence. Right care: Care is person-centred and promotes people's dignity, privacy and human rights. Right culture: Ethos, values, attitudes and behaviours of leaders and care staff ensure people using services lead confident, inclusive and empowered lives. At our last inspection, we identified the service needed to make improvements in order to meet these principles as some people’s choice and control over their lives was not maximised. During our recent assessment, we found that the service had improved since our last inspection and the service was now meeting the RSRCRC principles. At our last inspection we identified the provider had failed to provide support that met people's individual needs and reflected their preferences about their care. This was a breach of Regulation 9 (Person centred care) of The Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014. During our assessment we found improvements in this area and the provider is no longer in breach.
People's experience of this service
We found people’s experience of the service had improved since our last inspection and relatives echoed this. Feedback included the registered manager had encouraged staff to think more creatively about the support they provide and there was better communication with families. We identified better engagement with people from staff, and more opportunities for people to take part in activities they enjoy and to access their local community.
