Safe and effective staffing
Visitors told us there were enough staff available to support their loved one when needed. One relative said, “There is always enough staff when I visit, they are all very committed and caring.”
The registered manager monitored staffing levels and ensured there was a satisfactory skill mix in the service every day.
We observed enough staff to be available when people needed support. This included peak times such as mealtimes which ensured people did not have to wait for assistance when required.
The provider operated safe recruitment processes. This included undertaking appropriate checks with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and obtaining suitable references. DBS checks provide information including details about convictions and cautions held on the Police National Computer. The information helps employers make safer recruitment decisions.
Infection prevention and control
People’s visitors told us the home was kept clean.
The management team carried out monthly audits to identify and action any areas that required improvement
The home was kept clean and cleaning schedules were in place to manage this. We identified one area of cleaning that has been overlooked which was the underneath of wall mounted hand wash containers. The registered manager confirmed this would be added to the daily cleaning schedule.
An infection prevention and control policy and procedure were in place, and was followed by staff and audited by the management team .
