Our current view of the service

Requires improvement

Updated 8 October 2024

Date of assessment: 10 July to 9 August 2024. This included site visits on 10, 17 and 24 July 2024. This assessment was in response to the Care Quality Commission (CQC) receiving information of concern over issues such as staffing, risk management, and training. We identified 2 breaches of legal regulations concerning governance and safe care and treatment. The service did not always assess risks to people’s health and safety or mitigate them where identified. The service did not always properly and safely manage medicines. People did not always have accurate care plans to guide safe practice. The service did not always document and record necessary information. These shortfalls were not picked up by the provider’s governance systems. However, there were enough staff to ensure people’s safety and meet their needs. Staff were trained appropriately. People had access to appropriate support from healthcare and other professionals. The service had good infection prevention and control measures in place. Staff supported people to have independence, choice and control, and to give feedback on their care. The provider took steps to address the issues we identified following our feedback.

People's experience of the service

Updated 8 October 2024

People told us they felt safe living at Belmont House Care Home. People were happy with the care provided and had confidence in the staff. One person said, “I do feel safe here. The staff are amazing.” One relative told us staff “bend over backwards to help” with another saying, “The thing that makes this place is the staff, even the cleaners. I cannot praise them enough.” People and relatives knew who the registered manager was, and they felt comfortable raising any concerns. People thought the food at Belmont House Care Home was good. One person said, “The food is perfect. There is always a choice and plenty of it.” People were happy with their rooms and felt staff kept everything clean and tidy. There were no restrictions on visiting, and staff made visitors feel comfortable. Staff knew people well and had good relationships with visitors. However, we received mixed feedback about staffing levels. Some people and relatives felt more staff were needed, especially at night. Some people could not directly tell us about their experience. We used a structured observation tool to assess whether they received good care. This approach showed people were included and listened to. We observed staff treating people with compassion and responding to their needs.
