Our view of the service

Date of assessment: 24 April 2024 to 3 May 2024. This inspection was prompted in part by notification of an incident following which a person using the service died. This incident is subject to further investigation by CQC as to whether any regulatory action should be taken. As a result, this inspection did not examine the circumstances of the incident. However, the information shared with CQC about the incident indicated potential concerns about the management of risks to people. This inspection examined those risks. We reviewed the changes the provider had made to the environment since the incident. We reviewed the provider’s risk assessment and risk management processes. We also reviewed the processes in place to manage people’s medicines. This assessment did not cover all parts of our Single Assessment Framework; therefore, we have only updated scores and ratings for those areas we have assessed. We will carry out future assessments to cover other parts of the Framework and will update our website with our findings At the last inspection in January 2023 the service was rated Good. At this inspection we looked at 2 Quality Statements from 1 Key Question and found the service continued to be Good. Where risks to people were present, action was taken to assess and manage those risks to reduce the risk of harm to people. People’s medicines were managed safely.

People's experience of this service

People’s representatives told us staff took action to keep their relative safe and they told us staff knew their relative well and recognised new emerging risks which may cause them harm. Relatives confirmed staff helped their relative to take their prescribed medicines, so they remained well. They told us their relative’s medicines were reviewed to ensure they remained effective. Relatives felt well informed and kept up to date with any changes made to their relative’s care, in relation to keeping them safe and their medicines. When we visited Forest Court Care Home, we used the Short Observational Framework for Inspection (SOFI). SOFI is a way of observing care to help us understand the experience of people who could not talk with us. We observed staff taking action to keep people safe and supporting them to take their prescribed medicines. A relative said, “They help him to manage things and stop him if they think he is doing something that will put him in danger. This place is as near to excellent as you can find” and another relative said, "They are excellent with risk, I speak to them weekly, and they give me a full update on any changes that have taken place like medications or any concerns they may have."
