Kindness, compassion and dignity

Regulations met

On the day of our assessment, we gathered the views of 10 patients. Every patient asked told us they were treated as an individual and their culture and values were respected. They said staff were professional, courteous considerate and sensitive, and were honest and acted with integrity. Staff helped patients to be involved in decisions about their care and gave patients clear information to help them make informed choices about their treatment. Patients said staff were professional, courteous, and considerate. Patients felt they were treated as individuals, and their personal and cultural needs were respected. We were provided with a patient survey which indicated that 100% of the patients asked said they were given adequate time to think and then ask questions and were made to feel welcome. 95% of patients said the cost of treatment was communicated well and 90% of patients said treatment choices were explained well. The practice displayed these results together with details of actions they were taking to improve on the lower scores.

Staff were aware of their responsibility to respect people’s diversity and human rights. Staff were aware of the importance of privacy and confidentiality. Staff felt respected, valued and supported in their roles. Leaders described how they supported the wellbeing of staff.

We did not receive any feedback from partners.

The practice had information governance arrangements and staff were aware of the importance of protecting patients’ personal information. Staff password protected patients’ electronic care records, and paper records were stored securely and complied with General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR). Improvements were in progress to remove archived patient records to secure storage. We saw the general environment layout helped to protect patients’ privacy and dignity. Staff treated patients with kindness, respect and compassion.
