All Inspections

During a routine inspection

On the day of our visit to Peterborough Shared Lives Scheme we were unable to meet with the registered manager as they were not at work. We met instead with the scheme coordinator. We held telephone interviews with two people who used the service, two relatives and four shared lives scheme carers.

People told us that they were happy with the care they received. One person said, "[Name of carer] is fantastic. This is like a family home to me." They told us that they were involved in planning their own care, that they felt safe and that they were able to make their own decisions. We spoke with two relatives of people who used the service, one of whom said, 'I am very happy with the care my relative receives.'

A safeguarding policy was in place and the coordinator was clear about how to escalate concerns. Carers understood their responsibilities in relation to safeguarding people. However, we found that the scheme did not have a clear system that could be accessed by people who used the service if they had a safeguarding concern .

Overall, we found that staff and carers were supported well and had good opportunities to undertake training to meet people's needs.

The scheme did not have an adequate quality monitoring system in place. The coordinator confirmed that spot checks did not take place. Carers confirmed that records were not checked.

The scheme did not have appropriate arrangements in place for seeking people's views and acting on them.
