During a routine inspection
People's consent was obtained before any treatment was given. If a person was under 16 years old a parent or guardian had to given consent on their behalf. The orthodontist went through people's medical history to identify any potential problems with treatment. The medical history form took details covering a range of issues This included information about allergies to medication, food or substances, alcohol and tobacco use and whether they had any recent hospital treatment.
There was an infection control policy which covered hand hygiene, the decontamination process and the use of protective equipment. Relevant tests were carried out to sterilising and cleaning equipment. Records of these checks were kept. Staff demonstrated an awareness and knowledge of the infection control policy.
On the day of the visit the surgery was clean and well maintained.
