All Inspections

3 February 2014

During a routine inspection

We visited the office and spoke with the care delivery director, the manager, and five staff. We later spoke by telephone with 25 people who used the service or their relatives and seven staff. The people we spoke with by telephone all lived or worked within the area covered by the Ashford location.

The registered manager whose name appears on this report was not in day to day control of this location at the time of the inspection. The manager in day to day control had recently been appointed to the post of manager and was in the process of applying for their registration.

People told us that their privacy and dignity was generally respected and their independence was encouraged.

Most people we spoke with told us that they were satisfied with the care and support they received from care workers. People felt their care was personalised to their needs. One person said, 'It's very much better than one is led to believe from the media'. Some people felt the organisation and continuity of care workers could be improved. One person said, 'Carers are great, the coordinating could be better'. People were aware of their care plan folder (a records folder kept in their home, which contained their care plan), although not always of their care plan. We found that care plans contained information about people's needs and preferences. Two people had some concerns with the service provided and we agreed to bring this to the attention of the manager.

People felt safe using the service and when staff were present in their home.

People were generally complimentary about most staff. They felt that the service usually recruited the right calibre of staff to meet their needs.

People said they had been asked for their views and feedback on the service provided. There were systems in place to monitor the quality of the service.
