During an inspection looking at part of the service

During our last inspection on 15 October 2013 we found that some controlled drugs had expired and had not been disposed of appropriately. We also found that some controlled drugs had not been accounted for. In the vaccine fridge we found fifteen vaccines which had expired.

We visited Weedon Surgery on the 9 July 2014 to determine whether the practice had made the necessary improvements following our last inspection.

When we revisited the practice we spoke with the practice manager, a nurse and dispensary staff and looked at systems and procedures being used. We found that they had systems in place to ensure that medicines and controlled drugs were stored, managed and disposed of appropriately.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with patients at the surgery and they told us that they were extremely happy with the service provided. One person told us that they had been going to the practice for a long time and couldn't fault it. Another person told us that the most impressive thing about the practice was how easy it was to get an appointment.

Patients also told us that they felt safe at the practice and that consent was always sought before commencing any treatment. We did however find some concerns in relation to the management of medicines.
