Byfield Medical Centre provides a range of primary medical services to the residents of Byfield and the surrounding area. The practice provides services from its purpose-built location of Byfield Medical Centre, Church Street, Byfield, Daventry, NN11 6XN and from a branch practice at the local Memorial Hall in Woodford Halse. The branch practice was not visited as part of this inspection.
The practice offers dispensing services to those patients on the practice list who live more than one mile (1.6km) from their nearest pharmacy. The practice provides a dispensing service for approximately 4,486 patients.
The practice has a registered manager in place. A registered manager is an individual registered with CQC to manage the regulated activities provided. The service is registered with the CQC to provide the following regulated activities:
- Diagnostic and screening procedures
- Treatment of disease, disorder or injury
- Maternity and midwifery services
- Family planning
- Surgical procedures
The practice population is predominantly white British. The practice serves a slightly lower than average population of those aged 18 years and under and a slightly higher than average population of those aged 65 years and over. National data indicates the area is one of low deprivation. The practice has approximately 8,200 patients and services are provided under a general medical services contract.
The practice has two male GP partners and employs a female salaried GP. The nursing team consists of a nurse prescriber, two practice nurses and a health care assistant, all female. There is a team of reception, administration and dispensary staff all led by a practice manager, a reception manager and a dispensary supervisor. The practice also employs a counsellor to support patients experiencing mental health problems.
The practice is open from 8am to 6.30pm Monday to Friday. The branch practice is open from 9am to 10am Monday to Friday for GP consultations only.
When the practice is closed out of hours services are provided by the Northamptonshire Out of Hours service, run by Integrated Care 24 Limited, and can be accessed via the NHS 111 service.
