All Inspections

19 August 2014

During an inspection looking at part of the service

This inspection was carried out to see if improvements had been made following our inspection of 5 March 2014. During this inspection, we spoke with the provider, practice manager and one member of staff. We did not speak with patients using the service.

We found that there were systems in place to ensure the surgery was kept clean and the standard of the cleanliness was regularly monitored.

We found the provider had an up to date recruitment policy, which had been reviewed in March 2014. The provider was carrying out relevant checks when they employed staff.

5 March 2014

During a routine inspection

We spoke with six patients and seven staff. The patients we spoke with told us they had confidence in staff at the practice. One patient told us, "I have meaningful discussions with my doctor. I have known him for twenty years.' Another patient said, 'If they say a doctor or nurse will call you back they do, and this saves me a trip to the surgery.' Patients told us they were listened to carefully and were involved in decisions about their care and treatment. Patients said they had continuity of the same doctors and nurses and received consistency of care. The practice did not have audits in place for infection prevention and control practices, and cleanliness of premises. We found staff understood the signs and risks around protecting patients from harm. The provider was not carrying out relevant checks when they employed staff. We found most staff were well trained and supported to provide care and treatment to patients. Reporting of adverse incident and near misses were encouraged as opportunities for learning. The provider did not identify shortfalls and risks around ensuring effective systems were in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection.
