Our current view of the service

Requires improvement

Updated 6 August 2024

We undertook this assessment between 22 August 2024 and 3 September 2024. Saffron House is a care home supporting people across two floors of accommodation. The service is registered to provide care and accommodation for up to 48 younger and older people, people with physical disabilities and people living with dementia. At the time of our inspection there were 31 people using the service. During this assessment, we found the provider had made improvements and had met the requirements of previous breaches of regulations. However, some improvements were still required to the deployment of staff to ensure people were provided with timely, effective care from skilled and experienced staff. We found one breach of regulation in relation to staffing. The provider had developed more robust oversight and monitoring of the service which had improved systems and processes, though some improvements were not fully embedded in staff working practices. Staff described an improving culture where they received better communication, support and guidance. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.

People's experience of the service

Updated 6 August 2024

People described an environment where they felt safe and supported. People felt staff were usually kind and caring, though felt some staff were more diligent and attentive than others. Some people expressed concerns that they did not always receive timely care or care that consistently met their needs. Relatives felt staff were usually responsive to people's needs, established good communications and took action in response to changes in people's needs. People felt consulted about their day to day care but had no awareness of their care plans and did not feel involved in reviews of their care. While the people we spoke to expressed that they were generally happy with their care, our assessment found elements of care did not meet the expected standards.
