During a routine inspection

During this inspection we spoke with two support workers and two people who use the service or their relatives over the telephone. We also spoke with two case managers who work for a different organisation, but set up support packages using the services and staff of Northumberland House. They are also responsible for overseeing the support provided to people. Northumberland House recruits and provides training to staff. The service also works with the case managers and people who use the service to ensure that support workers are appropriately matched to give people the right level of support for their needs.

Relatives said that the support workers were committed in their work and showed a respectful attitude towards people who use the service. They said that the staff had a good understanding of people's needs and were reliable.

People we spoke with said the support workers helped them to do things they wanted, such as going to the shops and helping them to cook things they liked.

Case managers told us that the support workers demonstrated a positive commitment to supporting people become more independent in their lives. They said that the office staff listened to them, were responsive to their requests and any changes to support requirements were met promptly.
