Leaders and staff demonstrated that they were aware of the challenges with access to GP care nationally. This service was commissioned locally to provide extra capacity at evenings and weekends. We heard how the practice managed patients assessed as needing to be seen urgently or identified as vulnerable, and provided opportunities and support for different groups of patient population to overcome health inequalities, including to appointment length and to how patients could communicate with the service.

The service was available to anyone who lived in Camden or who was registered with a Camden GP. Patients could book appointments by telephone or could be made appointments at the service by NHS111 or by their usual NHS GP practice Appointments were available face to face or by telephone. Same day appointments were available as well as appointments a few days in advance. The service was open 365 days a year: 6.30pm – 8pm on weekdays and 8am – 8pm at weekends.
