During a routine inspection

During our inspection we spoke with the senior administration manager and the lead nurse. We also spoke with two people who used the service. People we spoke with told us they were satisfied with the service they had received. They told us that requests made for an appointment were responded to quickly and at a time that was suitable to them. One person told us, 'They have been very helpful. They tell you up front what the cost will be.' Another person told us, 'The nurse asked me to complete a form giving them information about any allergies I might have and what my medical health was like.'

We looked at the records of four people who used the service. We saw that before people received any care or treatment they were asked for their consent and the provider acted in accordance with their wishes.

We looked at the computerised care records of four people who used the service. We saw that there was a full audit trail of information which included details of the referring organisation, the service provided and the outcomes of medical assessments.

We looked at how the provider informed people of their complaints process. People we spoke with told us they had not been informed of any systems in place which would enable them to complain if they had a need to.

We found shortfalls in the records to evidence the monitoring of required safety checks. For example, we found that twice daily required safety checks of refrigerator temperatures where vaccines were stored were not being recorded. We also saw that daily checks of medical emergency response equipment such as oxygen cylinders and de-fribillator's were not being recorded.
