All Inspections

2 August 2013

During a routine inspection

We spoke with four members of staff, a supervisor and the manager of the service. We also spoke with seven people or the relatives of people who used the service.

Everyone we spoke with was very complimentary about the service. One member of staff said, "We always ask if we can help, once people have built up their confidence they can then do things for themselves." Another member of staff said "We give peace of mind to families, knowing their relatives are in good hands and being well cared for."

The care plans we reviewed demonstrated people were assisted with a range of everyday living tasks such as personal care, dressing, food provision, and assisting with medication. There were risk assessments in place for the environment, medication, health & safety, infection control, pressure area care and general & mental health. One person who used the service said, "They are brilliant, excellent. They watch me doing things, I can now make my breakfast."

Staff were able to demonstrate a good knowledge of issues of abuse and what they would do if they thought abuse was taking place. One person said, "Safeguarding is everybody's job."

Staff we spoke with said they had completed their mandatory training. They said training was good. It was plentiful and relevant.

The provider had carried out quality assurance checks on the service. These checks, which were completed by managers to ensure the service met people's specific requirements.
