During a routine inspection

During our inspection visit we spoke with three people using the service who stated that their treatments had been discussed with them by practitioners in private. They said that details about their treatment had been clearly explained to them before any treatment was undertaken. This had been supported with treatment plans and details of any associated costs before care took place. The people we spoke with confirmed that they had been given time to consider the options presented to them between appointments. Staff were reported as being helpful and receptive if there were any further queries or concerns.

People told us that they had no complaints about the standard of care and treatment they had received at the practice. However, we were told that they did have concerns regarding the appointment booking system which required them to book two months in advance. People told us that they would find it useful for appointment reminders to be issued by the practice.

When we discussed these comments with the practitioners they advised us that they were aware of the issues. Unfortunately, given the quantity of registered NHS patients at the practice (12.000) and unregistered patients contracted with the PCT (8 per day), the delay between appointments was inevitable. The practice was considering implementing appointment reminder cards in the near future.
