During a routine inspection

We spoke with three people who told us that they were happy with the service they received at Saunders Close. One person told us 'I like it here' and explained about the activities they had enjoyed doing, including staying at the caravan in Skegness owned by the provider.

We found that it was not always clear when care plans had been reviewed. This means that staff may not have all of the relevant information to meet people's needs.

We saw that an inventory of people's belongings was recorded at the beginning of their stay to ensure that their possessions were safeguarded. We saw that staff recorded details of any bruising or skin marks so that the cause could be investigated.

We saw that medication was stored securely. We found that the temperature of the medication storage had been recorded as being outside the recommended range on many occasions during the previous three months. This means that the quality and efficacy of the medication could have been compromised.

We saw there was a programme of audits and checks in place to ensure that people received care that was safe and appropriate to their needs. The manager explained that she and the quality team within Olympus had specifics areas that they were responsible for monitoring.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

We spoke with one person who used the service. They spoke highly of the staff and the service saying that staff had spent time supporting them emotionally as well as helping them develop the skills to be more independent. We found that people's needs were assessed and care and treatment was planned and delivered in line with their individual care plan.

We found that the provider had used their quality monitoring systems to identify areas for improvement and to ensure improvements to the service occurred.
