Our view of the service

Imperial Lodge is a care home for adults with mental health needs and substance misuse problems. Up to 10 people can live at the service. At the time of our assessment, 8 people were living there. The assessment started on 11 July 2024 and ended on 15 July 2024. We carried out an unannounced visit to the service on the 15 July 2024. The assessment was carried out to follow up on concerns identified at our last inspection (23 January 2024) when we identified breaches of Regulations relating to staffing, fit and proper persons employed and good governance. The rating at the last inspection was requires improvement. At the assessment of July 2024, we found the provider had made the required improvements relating to staffing, fit and proper persons employed and good governance. We identified some concerns relating to infection prevention and control and medicines management. We discussed these with the senior staff on duty who took action to start to address some of these concerns. We found most areas of the service were well managed and people were safe and well supported.

People's experience of this service

As part of our assessment, we contacted the local authority commissioning team to ask if they had feedback about the service. We reviewed information we had received, which included notifications from the provider, the provider's action plan following our last inspection and information the provider had submitted as part of their annual statement about the service. When we visited, we spoke with 4 people who used the service and 4 staff on duty. We observed how people were being cared for and looked around the environment. We looked at a range of records, these included reviews of people's care and feedback they had given the provider directly. The registered manager was on leave at the time of our assessment. We sent them written feedback about our findings and the staff on duty agreed to update them. People were generally happy. They liked the staff and felt they were well cared for. People told us they were able to make choices and were involved in decisions about their care.
