During a routine inspection

Supporting independence was a particular focus for Horsham Homecare. We found that promoting independence and supporting 'a more fulfilling lifestyle' were prominent objectives in their literature and service user guide. People we spoke with confirmed this and said 'they are wonderful', 'the best thing that ever happened' and one person said 'without them I would be stuck on a ward for the elderly'.

Relatives were also happy with the care provided and said 'they are very good and kind and make us feel important'. 'They give me peace of mind that my mother is safe and well'.

We observed staff working with people and witnessed their reassuring manner and sensitive and considerate approach. The staff appeared to be calm and unhurried and genuinely interested and concerned for the people for whom they were providing care. The staff we spoke with were happy in their work and one person said 'we are a small friendly team and everyone gets on'.

During a routine inspection

Some of the people using the service had complex needs which meant they were not able to tell us their experiences. However, we spoke with the relatives of four people who used the service. They all said they were very happy with the service. One person said about the service, 'I am very pleased with the care' they have been wonderful." Three of the relatives said they had seen a care plan and that the agreed amount of care was provided at the right times. They said the carers were very reliable and always stayed for the length of time required. One relative we spoke with said, 'We never feel rushed.'

We spoke with five members of staff. They all said that they felt they had been sufficiently trained to undertake their roles. They all said that they received good support from their manager.

The evidence gained during our inspection supported the views of the people and staff that we spoke with.
