During a routine inspection
Patients were assessed to ensure that they were suitable for day surgery and were given information in advance and on the day of surgery about the after-effects of surgery and how to care for themselves at home.
We also looked at how the service cooperated with other providers. Records showed that doctors in CESP liaised with other healthcare professionals involved in people's care. Referring GPs and opticians were kept informed about people's treatment by the surgeons.
There were arrangements to ensure that people were cared for by people with appropriate skills, qualifications and experience. CESP maintained records of doctors' GMC numbers and continuing professional development. The Consultant Eye Surgeon's Partnership itself provided opportunities for doctors to share their knowledge.
We found arrangements were in place for dealing with complaints and systems to monitor quality and safety.
