All Inspections

15 November 2013

During a routine inspection

We spoke with three people who were either family representatives or the person using the service. We spoke with one care worker and three managers.

Comments about care workers included, 'If a new care worker is being introduced I will be told and they will be supported by a familiar care worker that I know. This is good because the safety of my home is being respected'.

Each of them spoke positively about the care workers who attended to them and found no faults with the care provided. One person added 'I find care workers to be polite, helpful and fairly flexible to ensure things run smoothly'.

We saw the care plans provided assessments and evaluations and included the wishes of the person each time. Nutritional needs were met as part of the care provided where necessary. We saw medication was to be reviewed in relation to the way creams were recorded. We saw measures to monitor the quality of the service were in place and they were used to make adjustments to meet people's needs.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

We spoke with three people using the services, two relatives and two staff.

One person using the service told us, 'I am sent my rota in advance so that I can see who is coming to my home'.

A relative told us, 'I find communication seems to be a lot better with the agency as they will ring me to keep me involved and up to date with any changes in care. I will also communicate my wishes by leaving notes for them in the house'.

One person mentioned, 'I can not understand why the care worker who visits in the morning can not cover the lunch time call also rather than send a different person'.

Two further people told us they were sent a number of different care workers who visited their home but some of the staff were now becoming more familiar with their care and they saw this as being an improvement.

22 June 2012

During a routine inspection

We spoke with four people using services and read feedback to the service from people receiving care.

One person told us, 'the care workers are really lovely. However continuity in care with this agency is poor I have had up to nine different care workers in a day and cannot understand why this was necessary'.

One person told us, 'continuity in care is poor. Sometimes I get young care workers without much experience and little training in specialist care. I always try to help as I do not want my relative to be at risk from poor care. The regular carers are experienced and very good but there are too few of them. Time keeping could be improved. The care workers are asked to take on more work and fit calls in between. This makes them late'.
