During an inspection in response to concerns
We inspected the home because we received some concerning information about care practices and the home environment. A follow up inspection was also required to check whether the care records for people living there contained sufficient information to enable staff to care for people safely.
People told us 'The staff are absolutely spot on'; 'The staff are very helpful' and 'It's alright here'. One relative told us 'Mum is happy here. We are satisfied'.
We saw that the downstairs communal environment had been decorated and was tidy.
We saw that accurate records for people admitted recently to the home contained minimal information about their care needs or how these were being met. We observed that some care practices, such as using wheelchairs without footplates and without the appropriate risk assessments in place put people at potential risk of injury.
We saw that people did not have any social stimulation other that the TV during our visit. Most people spent their time with their eyes closed or asleep in their chair. One person said 'We don't do a lot through the day'.
We saw that hot meals were available at breakfast and lunchtime. One person said 'The food leaves a lot to be desired'.
We observed some medications were not stored securely and some medication records were not up to date.
