Independence, choice and control
People told us they were offered choices, and these were respected. People and their relatives told us visitors were welcomed and there were no restrictions on when people could visit.
A key worker system was used and. the registered manager told us this allowed staff to get to know people, including their likes, dislikes and how they wished to be cared for. We were told how people were involved in the activities schedule and some people also chose to do talks on their history, sharing their past experiences.
Activities were held throughout the day. For example, a live musician, quizzes and religious hymn readings. We observed activities largely for people who were able to verbally interact, however, we did not see how people with higher care needs received additional support in this area.
The provider had an activity board within the lounge area. This displayed a range of different activities. We were not able to see how the provider had adapted activities to meet people’s varied needs. Records of activities we reviewed showed involvement from the same people most days. There was no information on how additional support was provided to people with higher support needs. For example, people living with dementia.
